GOLDEN GATE FARM/ CAMPSITE

GOLDEN GATE FARM/ CAMPSITE is located on the B3311 between Penzance and St. Ives.  The farm and the campsite are set back from the road in a seculded location and is accessed over a lay-by.  The farm is mixed with chickens, ducks, turkeys, Dexter cattle and pigs.  We have our own orchard and produce our own vegetables, which are available to campers and the public according to the season, as well as fresh eggs daily.  We produce and sell our own beef and pork, which is for sale direct to the consumer.

The campsite is a quiet family site with water and chemical disposal points.  The campsite can accommodate 5 touring caravans, each with its own electric hook up and upto ten tents, plus vehicles.  The campsite boasts spectacular panoramic views of West Cornwall, including Carn Brea, Trencrom Hill and St. Micheal's Mount.

Our offices are located at
CASTLE GATE, LUDGVAN PENZANCE

Golden Gate Farm Background.

Our father purchased the land back in the early 90's and we have run horses and cattle on the land.  We got rid of the cattle just before BSE became prevelent in the UK.  After an absence of nearly 17 years, my father gave me an opportunity to turn the land into a proper samllholding, that was in 2009 and we have never looked back.  Dad past away in Feburary 2011 and the farm lives on, and expanding all the time, (campsite, cattle, pigs, geese, turkeys, ducks, chickens, one dog (an OES called Merlin), and numerous cats.

Although our Dad will never get to see the smallholding finished his memory lives on, his inspiration drives us on to achieve the best that we can for our campsite guests and in the welfare of our animals and in the quality of our produce.  Everyday is different, always something to do, whether it is mending fences or cleaning out the chickens, and all in one of the most beautiful areas of Cornwall.  Heres to ya Dad

A typical day at Golden Gate Farm.

04:00 Get up and greet the day.

06:00 Feed animals, chicks first, chickens, ducks, ducks, turkeys and geese, pigs and cattle.

06:00 Breakfast.

07:00 Start work, fencing, hedging, harrowing/ fertilising fields, repairs sheds and buildings, mucking out, to name but a few things we have to do to keep the Farm and campsite running like clockwork, weather permitting.

16:00  Feed animals, chicks first, chickens, ducks, ducks, turkeys and geese, pigs and cattle.

18:00 Dinner

22:30 Bed, same again tomorrow.

This is dependant upon weather, in the winter everything is later due to dark mornings and in the summer we typically finish at 21:00, some days we easily work 16-18 hours a day, everyday, 365 days a year.  We do not really have a Christmas off as the animals still need feeding and we are slaughtering the Turkeys, (how many have we got, how many should we have, they try their best to escape).  No rest for the wicked, nor for a farmer it seems. Besides doing all of the above we have to Tb test cattle, load pigs for market, sort eggs and return those naught, chubby pigs to where they should be and not where they think they would like to be.

We are out rain or shine, wind, snow and hail, to be honest we are so used to it that we do really take any notice we just get on with it, and still we love doing what we do and hope to continue for many years to come, with your help and support of course, so thank you to all those people who have and still are supporting us, we could not have and cannot do it without you.
